Official : Johnson’s Brexit bad for the UK

So now we know the date of the next election. We will be going to the polls on Thursday 12th December.

Winter elections usually favour the Tories as the days are short and many working voters often don’t feel like voting on a cold, dark evening after a long day at work. This election, however, has to be different because there is so much at stake.

Today a report has been published by the National Institute of Economic and Social Research. The report looks back over the economy since the EU Referendum in 2016 and confirms that predictions made at that time were largely accurate. It goes on to confirm in no uncertain terms that Boris Johnson’s Brexit will be bad for the United Kingdom to the tune of £70 BILLION!

My party colleague Tom Brake MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary for Exiting the EU said:

“These figures come as no surprise. We know that there is no deal as good as the deal we have currently as members of the EU. That is why the Liberal Democrats will keep fighting to stop Brexit.

“The Tories’ obsession with Brexit at any cost puts our future prosperity at risk. It is unconscionable that any Government would voluntarily adopt a policy that would slow economic growth for years to come. Boris Johnson’s eagerness to push for such a damaging deal is shocking.

“This General Election will decide the future of our country for generations. Liberal Democrats will be fighting to end this Brexit chaos. We are the strongest party of Remain and will be standing on a manifesto to stop Brexit by revoking Article 50.”
