I am delighted to confirm that I am standing for election on May 2nd to the new Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole local authority. Along with my colleague, Rebecca Edwards, I hope to be strong voice for the people of the Boscombe East and Pokesdown ward.
If elected one of my first priorities will be to try to attack our housing waiting list by demanding the new authority exercise it’s power to issue Empty Dwelling Management Orders (EDMOs).
These powers became law in 2004 and an EDMO allows a local authority to take over the management of any empty dwelling (subject to certain requirements) and bring it into use for people on its housing waiting list. It’s an extreme measure but extreme problems require this sort of decisive action!
