It’s been nearly three years now since the awful result of the EU Referendum at which huge numbers of people were convinced to vote narrowly in favour of a bundle of vague promises, half truths and outright lies.
I have been in no doubt that this decision to leave the EU will be nothing short of disastrous for our country. I can not sit idly by whilst watching the prospect of around £1.4billion of EU structural funding being stripped away from the Southwest. To expect anybody to think that this can in any way be compensated for by the government’s promise of around £50million over seven years is frankly outrageous. The impact of this huge funding chasm in our region will be huge, costing the jobs and livelihoods of real people in our towns, cities and countryside.
It has, therefore been out of a sense of duty and extreme concern that I was proud to join with nearly 1,000 other campaigners from Dorset in marching for a People’s Vote a few weekends ago.
I will continue to fight for good sense to prevail.46 Comments
